Perfect Pushups - The REAL story

Perfect Pushup1Morning!

Have you ever seen the infomercials for Perfect Pushups, those loverly thingees that provide you with handles that rotate and allow you to do rather intense pushups?

I bought them for myself and have to admit - they made pushups ‘way more difficult for me.  I greatly enjoyed teaching my upper body to stabilize itself when executing very *slow* pushups….talk about a killer workout! Read more »

Trampoline fitness even an elephant can do

Elephant jumping on a trampolineMorning!

Have you ever seen (gasp!  Dare I say it) Urban Rebounding?

For the usual human bean, it can be called "jumping on a mini-trampoline to get your heart-rate up".

But!  For those brave and intrepid few, it can mean,

To Boldy Go Where Elephants Fear To Tread!

Beachbody 10 Minute Trainer reviews and resources

10 Minute Trainer GoodiesOkay, blame it on the fact I’ve only recently started watching infomercials again…but imagine my surprise when I saw that Tony Horton, he of the most magnificent P90x fame, has a new program - 10 Minute Trainer!  (true, it’s not new, it was released last year, but like I said…I’m slow.  :)  )

Of course, my first reaction was, give me a break!  10 minutes?  Talk about infomercial hype!

But…this IS Tony Horton, so I decided to research a bit more.  And here’s what I found! Read more »

Billy Blanks Bio and Taebo

Taebo!Morning all,

I’ll confess - I *adore* Billy Blanks and his wonderful workout called Taebo.  Here’s why.

True, it’s not real martial arts (I do Goju-ryu karate, so I know the difference) but!  Many of the exercises he shows does build great muscle memory as well as really cause you to work up a sweat.

That’s not all, of course.  Billy Blanks himself is a very inspiring man indeed - as a child, he was undiagnosed with Dyslexia, was the 4th child of 15, and lived in a high-crime area to boot.  You can learn more over Read more »

ChaLean Extreme Forums, resources and more

Chalene ExtremeThis morning for the first time I caught the Infomercial ChaLean Extreme!  It garnered my attention because:

  • She’s the person behind TurboJam which I really enjoy (it’s a great cardio workout!)
  • The "X" in Extreme looked kinda sorta like the P90x X if you used your imagination.  :)

Anywhos, I decided to check it out (and I found discounts for you below!).  First I read the reviews over at Amazon: Read more »

Turbo Jam Forums, Communities, etc.

Turbo JamMorning!

Perhaps I’m showing my age…but I remember ‘way back when (okay, 2 years or so) I began my lifestyle change, I came across Chalene’s Turbo Jam.

And let me tell you, it was everything the infomercial said it was.

What I liked best about Turbo Jam was the music, pace and different exercises done to music.  Think about it - what ARE all these cardio-burner DVD thingees EXCEPT a way to get you moving and burning calories?

Here are some great Turbo Jam forums and the like:

[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-12-09 Summary: Favorite workout dvd I purchased this about four months ago, and it’s my favorite workout dvd. I like the versatility of the different workouts (for the same price as a one-workout dvd). It’s different, fun, and the music is catchy. I don’t get bored with it. Also, I’m not the best at really complicated dance routines, and this is pretty easy to follow. They have an instruction section where you can learn every move they do slowly and with tips and instruction for proper technique. The final reason I love this dvd: The instructor is not …more

TurboJam Blaster
Customer Reviews — [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-03-01 Summary: Fun for the unmotivated! I am not a fan of working out and it takes me a lot to get motivated, but Turbo Jam workouts go by very quickly and I actually enjoy doing them. I have recommended it to friends and they are falling in love with it too. I combine Turbo Jam workouts with a Fluidity workout bar I bought from Craiglist and I saw results after doing them for only a week and a half(and others noticed too!). Turbo Blaster is one of my favorite Turbo Jam workouts because it makes me sweat, sweat, sweat, completely worth it. Go buy it, go …more

[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-02-24 Summary: This is the best workout I have ever tried! We will see the results….. O.k, so I wanted to try Turbo Jam but was not willing to pay $[...] and upward for all the gadgets on their web site. As usual Amazon to the rescue, I figured 12 bucks for one dvd was pretty darn good. My expectations were not too high, especially with some of the reviews that stated the steps might be hard to follow. Well, I have been doing it for a week now, and yes she goes fast but if you continue to do it, you get the hang of it! And, it really is so fun, that o.k I can’t say that I forget that I am working out …more

Fitness Informercial Scams

Have you ever been soooo swayed by what you see on TV regarding fitness and weight loss that Only Takes 7 Minutes! etc. that you’ve found yourself flinging your credit card at the screen, begging to buy The One True Fitness Solution?

If so…I sure don’t blame you!  Those infomercials are created for one purpose and one purpose only - to make the product owner/designer/etc. money.  Some of them even hire paid actors to recite non-existent testimonials!

It’s really quite depressing.

Think about it.  Everything that screams, Get Results In 7 Minutes, will almost always have in teeny tiny print the following words to the effect of:

"Participants have been utilizing a low-calorie diet and high-energy workout plan."

Well then…..duh!  Of course the end result is a weight loss…the people are being smart about exercising and eating.  The so-called miracle machine/product/etc. had zero to do with it.

Whenever you consider investing in any infomercial product, research it FIRST at:

Chances are….if the claims sound too good to be true, they certainly are!  Heck, this morning I was watching one of those Ab Slenderizer or Tonerizor or what have you…and it claimed:

"Just like a pacemaker exercises the heart, the Ridiculous Machine in question exercises your abs!"

Sigh.

An easy way to find out whether something is a scam or not is to Google it like so:

These two searches about will show you that not many folk like the Red Exerciser, while bunches of people swear by P90x.

As a consumer, it’s your duty to research, research research.  More information can be found at:

The infomercial products I’ve found to be most worthwhile are by:

  • Turbo Jam
  • billy Blanks
  • Tony Horton

just to name three.

In closing, miracles DO exist…you just have to put in ALL the time and effort to achieve them.

Enjoy,

Barbara Ling

Is P90x for you?

Do you adore P90x too?

I confess to utterly loving P90x!  It’s one of the few infomercial products that really does what it claims - follow the plan, put in the effort, cut the calories, watch your food intake and (well, okay, DUH!) you’ll get into far better shape than one would think.

I did my P90x stint back, oh, hmmmm…. in 2008?  I had treated myself to the program (got a great p90x discount too at eBay) right before going in for leg surgery and then, once I recovered, dove bravely into it.

In a word, it’s brutal and dynamic but wow, is it ever a tremedous program to do at home!  I lost inches, gained muscle where I wanted (and no, women with muscles look sexy, not bulked!), and had a blast with it.

You can learn more about P90x at places like:

I really like the fact thousands of people share their P90x experiences!

P90x is definitely for you IF and ONLY IF you can commit to actually doing the workouts.  They’re only an hour a day and really, you do feel superb once you have completed each one (even Darth Yoga, the Yoga of Death which is agonizingly wonderful beyond belief).  I can highly recommend it.

Now for the good stuff!

You can get P90x often for a discount over at eBay and Amazon too!  Just look below:

require('http_Find.php'); print(http_Find('t=eBay&Keywords=p90x&Random=4&Cache=3212'));
?>
require('http_Find.php'); print(http_Find('t=Amazon&Index=Sports&Keywords=p90x+fitness&HowMany=2&Reviews=1&Cache=919212'));
?>

Enjoy,

Barbara Ling
