Hell Froze Over

HellMorning all,

Wow, what a past 36 hours!  As I wrote yesterday, I have been hit by the MegaVirus of the Century - running nose, molten nasal drip, pounding headache, etc.etc.etc…..and yesterday, I gave myself permission to take it easy and forgo anything fitness/diet related.

I’m pleased to announce that today, I’m feeling a weee bit better (like taking 9 steps makes you a wee bit closer to China) and am considering returning to the land of the living.  I lived on hot soup, diet coke, gallons of hot water and butterscotch chips yesterday (looking forward to getting back into my healthy routine, let me tell you!).

There’s a couple of things I want to share with you.  One, Hell actually did freeze over, and I did NOT attend my beloved adult karate sparring (heck, I let Honorable Husband take the Ling Clan to their karate practice instead of me!).  Now, for those of you who know me, missing karate is as likely for me as gravity reversing itself during an avalanche.  It just doesn’t happen!

But I’m always looking to set a good example for my kids…and I figured, demonstrating that Mom is actually capable of (cough cough) common sense and NOT infecting the rest of class would be a Good Thing indeed (plus the fact my limbs felt several hundred pounds heavier).

So instead, I walked the mooses, took my allergy medicine, and went to bed.  I actually slept ‘way past my wakeup time of 3am - got up at 4:45am and decided that I’ll survive for the meanwhile.  That was a smart thing to do - I’m feeling far more alive today.

So!  I’m still NOT going to go all-out bananas regarding fitness and health - will probably get in some isometric exercises and a walk as well.  I’ll hold off going to the gym until I’m certain I’ve recovered (I’m known for relapsing my 17th relapse  :)  ).

Which brings me to the point of this post.  Giving yourself permission to recover is a Very Good Thing indeed!  The world will NOT collapse if you forgo your daily exercise/diet practices….nor will your family implode if you take a break from being the All Powerful Parent.  ‘matter of fact, my 4 kids went out of their way to take care of me (bringing food, kleenex, happy mooses and the like).

Treat yourself like the gem you are!  You certainly deserve it.

And it’s been awhile since I added some nifty videos to my posts - let me close with this wonderful montage of what NOT to do with karate.  :)  Enjoy!

Stay healthy,

Barbara Ling
